i am a new to project planning and in my mid career. i moved from engineering background (7 years in o&g industry) and have been in planning role only since 6 months.

can you please advise books and blogs i can start with to learn p6?
currently my learning is from my team mates helping me in the project and through random blogs that i read.

i agree with my good friend craig relyea that “cpm in construction” is a must-read for construction scheduling. also dave hulett’s excellent text on “project risk quantification.” i will also note that my second book, “cpm mechanics,” is the most detailed and thorough examination of the fundamentals and practical nuances of the critical path method available today. and thanks for mentioning my first book, “faster construction projects with cpm scheduling.”

shout out to john hollmann and jose noe.

hi jose

have you looked at the latest version of prism g2

it could go along way to helping you out if you configure it properly.
it was good enough for british cross rail and many other mega projects.

thanks for the list of books but you’ve missed, in my opinion, probably the most important, most practical and common sense book from long time aacei heavyweight and colleague of dr hulett, namely
john k. hollmann – project risk quantification

i was wondering if you have any literature addressing the application of project controls on turnarounds and how it differs from its use in small to medium size projects.

we are embracing an initiative to look at bringing together the core principles of project controls into the turnaround (shutdowns) world. elements like granularity, reporting formats, earned progress, etc.

if you have any information/recommendation, please let me know.
many thanks.
