there’s a setting for this in p6:
1) admin menu -> admin prefs -> general tab. you can change the 1st day of the week there.
i have never fiddled with it, but i suggest you go and play.

hi shiva,
most users, including myself, have had 0 luck in getting p6’s shift calendars to work correctly. thus, we don’t use them. you can use stick your 24hrs working calendar and assign crews at half the normal rate to calculate the correct hours, if that’s important to you. for most, the assignment is more important than ensuring the man-hours add up. but i would avoid shift calendars and simply use the activity calendars. i hope that helps.

1) nope – resource calendar’s don’t affect activities for task dependent activity types.
2) you can’t avoid partial float or decimal float when using 3 different calendars. the decimal are created as a result of the different start or finish times during the day. it’s ok, leave it alone.
3) not sure i understand. cash flow curves plot the cash assigned to activities. activities have different calendars. i’m not clear what you’re asking.

3. as explaned i have to use three calender in project. but for all the activity i have to use common 世界杯时间比赛时间 cash flow . which calender i have to use. wishing your suggestion.

the standard is to track to both. your actual progress will usually land between the early and late dates and create a banana-shaped curve. i’m not sure why you would have to revise your schedule. perhaps you can explain.

looking forward to enrolling in your tutorials but for now not yet as still having very tight work schedule. i have a question about project progress tracking. is it ok for me to track using late start/late finish s-curve so i will not revise my schedule? or revise it now rather than later as early response is better than late response?

in all honesty, p6 doesn’t handle vacation for individuals very well. you can create a resource calendar and indicate vacation there. but then you have to switch activity types to “resource dependent” which may lead to other problems. most of us don’t track vacation or time off for individual 世界杯时间比赛时间 in p6 – it can’t really handle it properly.

make a udfs named “udf start” + “udf finish”.
via a global change, set “udf start” to “start” and “udf finish” to “finish”.
create a layout, showing the udf baseline vs current.
via a global change, set “calendar” to “desired calendar” and “remaining early finish” to “udf finish”.
boom – durations will fix themselves.

!!!note – check this in a copy first – not in your real project!!!

thank you mike,

what i tried to tell you is the original duration in the wbs bar calculates based on the calendar assigned to the activities. as an eg: if all the activities iin the wbs has 6 day calendar, the wbs original duration will be in 6 day calendar. if the activities are a mix of 6/7 cal. then the wbs uses project default calendar to find the original duration. my requirement is to show the original duration on the wbs based on the default calendar regardless of the calendars assigned to the activities.

once again thank you very much for your prompt response!

amjad,
ignore the calendar in the wbs bars – calendars are not assigned to wbs – only to activities – what you see is a product of change the calendars and the group bars not having the time to catchup. this will either fix itself automatically – or you can refresh the screen with f5.

hi denis,
that’s the correct approach – you can have different calendars in your baseline than in your current schedule. you might consider creating another baseline based on the new version of your schedule with the calendar change as well. you may need it going forward.

by: denis //www.deco-dalles.com/5-things-know-primavera-p6-calendars/#comment-37422 wed, 27 jan 2016 05:53:42 +0000 //www.deco-dalles.com/?post_type=article&p=2118#comment-37422 hi experts,

one question: is it possible to use 2 different calendars for the baseline and for the current schedule? what has happened is the working hours have changed completely since the bl was approved, so now we have 12 hours a day with no weekends/holidays, but in the baseline we have 8 hours a day with weekends and national holidays off.

my intention is to use 2 different calendars for my bl and current schedule – is my approach correct?

to clarify, you’re setting a default calendar for the project by finding the project on the project screen, going to the defaults tab and setting the calendar there – right?
if you have an blank project, then yes, all activities will get the default calendar. but if you have activities in your schedule, making this change will not change the calendar for all activities that already exist. you must perform a fill down to do that.

damie,
i suspect you a falling into the trap of trying to force dates and times. this approach isn’t recommended, but often if we’re not familiar with p6, we try it anyway. forcing activities to start on a specific date or time should not be done – unless it’s a one-off case and then you can use a constraint to hold an activity to a date / time. you want p6 to figure out the scheduling for you – you set activities and durations, and link them together. tap f9 and all of the dates/times are calculated for you. then you can adjust a few activities with constraints.

hi jaff,
i would err on the side of using the calendar that is used mostly throughout. for example, if you have design work on an 8hr calendar, and construction work on a 12hr calendar, i would probably use the 12hr calendar as the default project calendar. it pays to be cautious and to continually audit your activities to ensure you’re using the proper calendar.

yeah – there’s no easy way for those situations. you’ll have to manually input them as non-working in advance. often p6 users will set up a yearly calendar with holidays in january so they are set for that year.

i think you want this setting : admin menu -> admin preferences -> general tab. there’s a setting for the first working day of the week.

steve, check the calendar used to calculate lag. hit f9 -> options button. at the bottom look for the setting “calendar for scheduling lag”. what is it set to? predecessor calendar usually works for most situations.

ratan,
goto edit -> user preferences -> time units tab. use the dropdown called “durations format” to select days or hours or something different.

i do not know why you think that the float is not being calculated correctly when using multiple calendars. can you show me an instance where this is the case. i would also have to see the working hours for each calendar to perform a hand calculated forward and backward pass. i would also have to know of any constrained dates in the schedule and the project must finish by date and the data date.

zoltan & dalal,

for project’s total duration to be in calendar days; i suppose you should just change the project’s default calendar (if using p6v7 or lower) or change the global default calender if using version 8. in any case, zoltan’s work around is brilliant 🙂

by: zoltan palffy //www.deco-dalles.com/5-things-know-primavera-p6-calendars/#comment-13308 tue, 15 apr 2014 12:08:41 +0000 //www.deco-dalles.com/?post_type=article&p=2118#comment-13308 1. check your working hours in each calendar.
2. make sure that the activities are assigned to the correct calendar (open a column for calendars then fill down).
3. turn on your times (edit users preference dated tab under time check 12 hour and show minutes)
4. go to the project directory make sure that your project start time is correct
5. make sure that the data date time is correct
6. make sure that the project must finish by time is correct.
7. if these are incorrect you might have to run a global change an add one day to each duration calculate the schdedule then run a second global change and subtract one day from each duration for it work correctly.
