not exactly. it’s calculated based on the start date of the first activity and the finish date of the last activity. it’s the duration between these two dates.

referring to critical path definition (sequence of critical activities from the earliest start activity to latest finish activity) that give the project total duration.

is the sum of durations of these five critical activities gives the project total duration ?

hi douglas, yes. essentially it will calculate the paths to that activity, whether they are critical or not.

emmanuel, since you’re just starting out i should let you know that there isn’t 1 video i can send you to get you up to speed. primavera p6 is a costly and sophisticated enterprise software package so summing it up with 1 video doesn’t really work. that’s why we developed online training on primavera p6 – please watch some of our free videos to get a feel for what you are getting into.

unfortunately, p6 won’t copy the columns – you have to set them both up manually.

generally, no that is not acceptable. unless there has been approval for changed dates, upcoming dates should only change by inputting actuals and rescheduling, not by manual manipulation.

my thinking is for the start dates to be left alone until it is actually started, then updated.

godfried,
usually, as a project is updated with actuals and status, those actuals will push or pull activities earlier or later. if your contractor is adjusting dates, but not putting in actuals, then yes, you have a problem. the project dates should match the baseline unless a change has been approved or the actuals input have rescheduled current and future activities.

would i be correct in my thinking?
