in my experience , some specs says duration of activities to be as 10 days or some not more than reporting period which is 2 week to 4 week . while dcma says 44 days — not acceptable . similarly high float 44 days is also not always a standard as it should have relevance to project length.

good point richard about having the dcma criteria in the project specs. maybe it’s an evolution and we’ll evolve to that point. i personally haven’t seen a spec that references dcma. how about you?

i’ve read ron winters assessment of dcma and have found it quite useful. i believe if a schedule reviewer is utilizing dcma as a standard for analyzing baselines and subsequent updates that it should be explicitly defined in the project specifications that this is the standard to which the schedules will be reviewed. otherwise the dcma standard is a strictly a methodology tool.
