of course! so, the menu bar is there, but it has been undocked and is likely out of bounds, maybe because of a change in screen resolution.
2 things to try:
1) tap alt-v, tap the up arrow 3 times, press enter. this will try to access the view menu even though it is off screen and to reset the toolbars.
2) change your screen resolution in windows to a largest size possible (say 1920×780 or higher). then poke around the edges of the p6 screen to see if the menu is floating about.

hello, michael. thanks for the reply… but as i have mentioned, there is no tool menu bar at all to go to “view” menu. i checked the manual and it indicates that the menu bar can’t be hidden, but somehow it’s not showing at all.. no file, edit.. etc.

zahid shaikh. yes, you can open 2 projects at the same time, but you don't get side by side comparison in p6. the projects are presented on top of each other. to open multiple projects, goto file->open. hold down ctrl and select the projects to open. click open.]]>

i had a problem in my project. all my activity codes phase disappeared from my project. i already tried to create another activity codes and assign again, but the system does not accept and gives the message “activity code assignment record was already added by another user”. could you help me?

hi michel,
we are a quiet big construction company, we want to make a relevant use before buying the p6 application and the licenses, and also to test the features and best prepare our inquiries, so the environment do we clearly need is:

1- the database server (could be oracle or ms sql …) installed and prepared.
2- installing the p6 in this server
3- installing the p6 in some clients machines and connect them the database and p6 server.
as you can see, we want a shared test environment to prepare the prerequisites and to see what we can do with this application.

as there is many primavera products in the e-delivery store, i need to know:
which p6 pack i have to download (i ll use windows 7 x64)? what is the difference between eppm and ppm? what is more suitable to us?
which installation type (typical, standalone or custom) to satisfy our need?
how can i make some machines of our network (lan) to use the application in this mode?

ps: we are also seeking for training partner but only in french, if you have any offer.

there are lots of opportunities for project planners / schedulers and project controls experts around the world. since you already have a strong engineering background, you are already in a place to create a good foundation in project controls.

i would recommend you learn primavera p6 professional (windows).

the web version of primavera p6 (eppm)is not used extensive in oil & gas, but mainly it right now.

i have b.eng. mechanical engineering degree and have almost 13 years of experience doing structural design work for oil & gas industries. i have seen this discipline and want to grow up but my boss want to keep me on same position.

once again i need your help after long time. i am using primavera p6 r 8.2, few projects are vanished from eps. i can’t see them even if i am making new project with same id & name. i have tried with fillters but still no result.

now, i am facing new problem as well, that has stuck me for any new job

i am adding new project in primavera client. i am unable to add new project, and receiving message “wbs record was already added by another user. the other user’s data will be used”,

please take me out from this trouble. i will be very thankfull

if you have eppm installed, then the features you are looking for accessible only via the web – they have been removed from the windows client. access then via the admin menu in p6 eppm.

hi ahmed,

there are 2 versions of p6 professional. one version is called the p6 optional client and is usually packaged along with p6 eppm. this version has alot of administrative features removed as they exist only in p6 eppm (web). using this version, you can connect to p6 db using either tool – optional client or eppm. i suspect you have this version installed.
the other version – called primavera p6 professional – does not hide the administrative features.
annoying – i know.
you may have to uninstall it and get the proper version reinstalled.

hi pamela,
the grouping bars use the default calendar to do their duration and total float calculations. it’s likely that your default calendar is set differently than your project calendar. note what calendar is used mainly on all activities of the project. then goto enterprise->calendars and set the default checkbox next to that same calendar.

i’ve just had version 8.2 loaded onto my computer and now it seems that the calculation for total float of the baseline schedule is all wonky!
when i made my baseline schedule and then showed the current schedule total float beside the baseline total float, the baseline tf is showing to be a lesser number of days than the current tf even though i haven’t yet updated the schedule.can someone tell me what’s happening with this?
i didn’t have this problem with version 7…..

i am a asta pp user but learning p6 8.2 for the first time. i love the way i can right click in the gantt chart to make changes and to access most items quickly from the menus and chart itself. i find p6 like a dinosaur, so out of date and so difficult and slow to use. consider that the world uses p6 more than pp i am amazed how slow they are making it more user friendly. all i hear about from experienced users of p6 are moans.

the presentation is poor too, adding % slow, linkage appears to be backward in some cases, etc

i know i will learn it but cannot see me ever liking more than asta pp

no, p6.1 & p6.2.1 cant be installed at one saitnnce but p6 v7 & p6 r8 can installed on same computer since p6v7 database can be installed on oracle & p6 r8 database can be installed on sql server 2008 r2
