last week i started making changes to the machine that i had previously installed sql server 2012 and spring v8.2.
and it shows me an error that does not allow me to open the spring.
this week i dedicated myself to configure a virtual machine in which primavera v8.2 was already running, but i did not have local installation of the sqlserver, that is, you could work with it using the central server.
to that machine i installed and configured the sqlserver from 0 and i updated the spring version, but i still get the same result

the error is execption eaccessviolotion in module pm.exe

hi billy,
you don’t really adjust the project’s finish date. rather you would look at the entire project and make adjustments where applicable to see if you can hit your deadline. you’ll need to look at activity relationships, estimates of durations, approaches to the work, lag, etc. preventing negative float isn’t a trivial affair. it takes analysis and appropriate adjustments while executing the work. maybe that isn’t what you want to hear, but it’s proper procedure.

no. the price/unit columns (1 through 5) can be renamed in the admin settings. so someone probably renamed the first 3 columns to something like “standard rate”. if you visit a resource’s settings, on the price/unit tab, you can add all of the renamed rate columns to this tab. right-click on a column heading to edit the columns and add them all. then you’ll know the names.

you will have to download from the oracle the database zip file. that zip contains the db setup program that will also do an update. perhaps you already have it – it’s called dbsetup.bat.

michael, the key is to “roll up” the lowest tf value. i do not wish the tool to “calculate” the tf number. calendars are not the issue with a roll up.

david, you are correct. we should essentially ignore the summary level data. it is actually calculated based on whatever calendar is set as the default calendar in enterprise->calendars. since it’s based on single calendar, we often have the situation where the default calendar is not the calendar used in the project, or the project uses multiple calendars. so summary-level data cannot be trusted.

manish, can you explain please? if you are doing this from the resource assignments screen, then do edit->select all, copy and paste the results into excel.
i’ve noticed that is doesn’t seem as though all columns are highlights, but the data is there when i pasted it into excel.

imagine a section for procurement and an item (child) has a negative tf of say -8 weeks, however when the dates are “rolled” up from all children the tf shows a positive value of say 12 weeks. when you are reviewing only summary bars or wbs bars you would think there were no issues for procured items. my request has fallen on deaf ears at oracle for many years.
this is a fundamental flaw and does not fit the top down review practice which is used to screen schedules by senior team members.

i’m pretty sure you can go right to 16.1. as always, a more stable version will have a larger decimal. 8.4 was good. but 16.1 seems to be fine in terms of bugs. if there were anything major i would report it here.
there’s not much that’s different if leaving 6.2. there’s a nicer interface, there’s no more methodology manager, there’s visualizer for reporting. otherwise, it’s still p6.

we are currently running project management 6.2 and looking to upgrade.
would you recommend upgrading directly to 16.1? or is it advisable to take smaller steps and get to 8.2 for example while possible bugs are worked out of more recent versions.
what are common pitfalls or learning curves when leaving 6.2 (or any significant upgrade for that matter)?

hi vij,
thanks for pointing this out. i’m not sure why oracle’s indicating that sql server is “deprecated” – even though they continue to support it. it’s been my experience that many p6 clients are on ms sql and not supporting it would quickly alienate many of them. i believe oracle has tried this approach a few releases back, but the backlash was too much.
i haven’t tried an oracle to ms sql migration, but i would be very cautious in attempting one.

i’m surprised to hear this. i’ve got some very large projects in my db and the db size stays under 1 gig. do you have auto-shrink on?

note: this will ensure the transaction log no longer grows to a point where you reach the 10 gb limit.

1.) load sql server management studio and login as sa.
2.) right click on the pmdb database and select properties.
3.) in the left panel of the properties window select “options”
4.) under the automatic section set the “auto shrink” option to true and click ok.

i have an ongoing list of enhancements, but with regard to the relationship lag columns i would like to see p6 pro go one step further and show the lag on the relationship on the gantt bars as a label option. this would be so much easier to spot than having yet another column.
