i think the issue is that you can’t seem to upgrade a db from v6 right to v16.2 . in my experience, you have to first upgrade it to v8.x (pick a .x version), then make the move to v16.2. i know – a real pain.

i had a version 6 p6 (ms-sql server). now i uninstalled it and installed the ppm 16.2 (sqlite data base) through oracle site. the issue is update baseline is not working in it.

is it possible to configure the data base to go back to the sql server, in order to get back the update baseline feature.

if possible, can you please let me know the steps.

what should be filled in the following sections, while configuring the data base

1. host name (sql server connection)
2. database name (sql server connection)
3. user name (public login information)
4. password (public login information)
5. public group id (public login information)

thanks

no data is lost during an upgrade. just follow the process.

thanks for the tip tim! i might be worth exploring the possibilities with a moveable db.

google dive is a downloaded storage folder that is on your computer but gets updated in the cloud.

this would only be able to be used with one application at a time. i think it would have a heart attack if you opened the database with both computers.

regards

tim

hi jonathan, thanks for the comment. clearly it’s a confusing topic and the program names don’t help. this article was strictly about primavera p6 professional (or primavera p6 ppm) – not eppm. so, yes i do mean that primavera p6 ppm 8.4 does not have admin features. it is now being distributed as a single-user tool.
another reason this is confusing is for eppm users who connect a copy of p6 professional to their eppm db – i may have written that wrong as oracle uses the terminology “the optional client” – which is again a version of p6 professional (8.0+) that has no admin features in the windows tool. in this case, the administrative features are only available in the web-version.
hope that clarifies things somewhat.

i’m not sure what you mean by p6 professional standalone doesn’t have admin capabilities? i just installed p6 professional eppm 8.3 on a virtual machine with oracle xe as its database. i then upgraded to 8.4.0 and then to 8.4.5. i still have the ability to manage users and profiles. could you mean the p6 professional ppm 8.4 does not have admin in it’s version of “standalone”? maybe it’s true if you actually install using the wizard with “standalone” as your option. i installed each component individually. even so i’m not sure that should make a difference. even still i don’t think this “feature” is new to 8.4 as i seem to recall a version of 8.0 client that when i installed using the wizard and choosing “standalone” that i did not see the admin capabilities in the client. oddly enough this was a eppm client like the one i installed today, but it was connected solely to an eppm database, in which case you shouldn’t see admin capabilities.

thanks,
jonathan johnson

well, primavera is small in the oracle portfolio. we hope they spend more time on professional too.

based on your comments i agree that there is no need to upgrade to the new version. i am not quite sure of the reasons for going back to a true standalone version. it seems to me that oracle went around in circles in trying to determine a better way for users to work with this program. if you remember p3 was a true stand alone application and when it evolved to what is now p6 it became server based so now it is going back to true stand alone. one thing i noticed about oracle is that they have so much in their plate in terms of applications and primavera does not seem to be one of their priorities i just hope that another smaller company would take the application over form oracle and do more development.

i also loaded the sqlite database to see how it performs so have made a mirror image of my xe one, and everything seems to be ok so far
