{"id":7656,"date":"2014-10-17t10:07:02","date_gmt":"2014-10-17t14:07:02","guid":{"rendered":"\/\/www.deco-dalles.com\/?p=7656"},"modified":"2019-08-23t16:21:54","modified_gmt":"2019-08-23t20:21:54","slug":"motivate-inspire-others-project-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"\/\/www.deco-dalles.com\/motivate-inspire-others-project-story\/","title":{"rendered":"how to motivate and inspire others with your project story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>i want to hear your story.<\/p>\n<p>i want to hear about how your schedule was a nightmare from the start &#8211; but you pulled through in the end; about how this one trick saved your butt in a crunch or even about how things went completely wrong and you would never do that again.<\/p>\n<p>these are stories we all want to hear.<\/p>\n<p>we want to hear your story about project controls, <a href=\"\/\/www.deco-dalles.com\/course\/primavera-p6-foundations\/\">primavera p6<\/a>, your team&#8217;s unique project and what you accomplished.<\/p>\n<p>last year i played a part in organizing\u00a0<strong>collaborate14<\/strong>, where i and others were inspired by presentations from <strong>primavera users<\/strong>;\u00a0users who were willing to stand up and share their experiences with primavera &#8211; the good, the bad and the ugly.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>some inspiring\u00a0talks i attended at collaborate14:<\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ivan rincon&#8217;s<\/span> excellent presentation on implementing an integrated <a href=\"\/\/www.deco-dalles.com\/primavera-p6-ppm-vs-primavera-p6-eppm-differences\/\">primavera p6 eppm<\/a> at <a title=\"bc ferries\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bcferries.com\/\">bc ferries<\/a>.\u00a0ivan told bc ferries&#8217; story from an organizational standpoint, discussing challenges with training, user adoption, having proper technical skills in-house as well as technology challenges.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">it was not your typical &#8220;<em>here&#8217;s how mapped this field to that field in p6<\/em>&#8221; sort of talk. (here&#8217;s a link to ivan&#8217;s <a title=\"implementing primavera p6 8.2 - the journey presentation\" href=\"http:\/\/www.primaverasig.com\/portals\/0\/implementing%20primavera%20p6%208.2%20-%20the%20journey%20ppt.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">presentation<\/a> and his <a title=\"implementing primavera p6 8.2 - the journey whitepaper\" href=\"http:\/\/www.primaverasig.com\/portals\/0\/implementing%20primavera%20p6%208.2%20-%20the%20journey%20wp.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">whitepaper<\/a> on the opsig website.)<\/p>\n<p>ivan discussed how the organization had to adapt to enterprise project management, and how people reacted to these changes. the kind of invaluable &#8220;how we toughed it out&#8221; information i heard about you will not find in any oracle brochures or white papers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">trevor watt<\/span> of epcm solutions sort of blew me away with &#8220;<strong>30% \/ 60% \/ 90% ifc engineering: what is the project progress?<\/strong>&#8221; (link to <a title=\"30% 60% 90% ifc engineering what is the project progress presentation\" href=\"http:\/\/www.primaverasig.com\/portals\/0\/30%2060%2090%20percent%20ifc%20engineering%20-%20what%20is%20the%20project%20progress.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">presentation<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>he showed us\u00a0how ifc engineering project schedules are usually built at a fairly <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">high-level<\/span> in p3 or p6. this high-level approach didn&#8217;t allow him to accurately progress his activities using <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">rules of credit<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">his solution?<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">ditch the high-level schedule and go for a detailed schedule that allowed him to increase his progress accuracy by a factor of 10.<\/p>\n<p>and he used just about every primavera p6 feature to build and track his schedule &#8211; <a href=\"\/\/www.deco-dalles.com\/export-p6-resource-assignment-data-excel\/\">resource curves<\/a>, leveling, financial periods, global changes&#8230;. he used them all.<\/p>\n<p>why bother with the detail?<\/p>\n<p>his words &#8220;the bottom line is what ever happens during <strong>the<\/strong> <strong>engineering phase, can affect construction two fold<\/strong>.&#8221; smart stuff.\u00a0his audience was impressed and had a flurry of questions for him afterwards.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>as an organizer for next year&#8217;s collaborate15 conference, i&#8217;m on a mission to find more\u00a0inspiring and motivating user stories. technical presentations are great and really helpful. but a successful user conference relies on users to get involved.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>i&#8217;m on a mission to find more\u00a0inspiring and motivating user stories.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h3>collaborate15 call for presentations &#8211;
